Visit to Airports in Cancún and Cozumel

MEXICAN TRANSPORT MINISTER AND QUINTANA ROO STATE GOVERNOR VISIT AIRPORTS IN CANCÚN AND COZUMEL TO REVIEW HEALTH MEASURES


Cancún, Quintana Roo, May 1st, 2009.- The Mexican Minister of Communications and Transport, Juan Molinar Horcasitas, and the Governor of the State of Quintana Roo, Félix González Canto, this morning visited Cancún International Airport to inspect the health measures adopted at the request of local authorities.

During the visit, on which they were accompanied by the Director of Cancún Airport, Gabriel Gurméndez, they were able to observe the medical examination procedures implemented for all passengers with international destinations.

The procedure includes a visual examination of passengers, the completion of a form in which passengers are required to provide information regarding possible symptoms of disease, body-temperature measurements and finally a medical evaluation.

The Minister visited the health control modules installed in Terminals 2 and 3 of Cancún Airport, and was able to see firsthand that the measures implemented for passengers correspond to what the authorities have requested from the country’s airports.

During the visit, the Director of Cancún Airport explained the process whereby passengers undergo health assessment procedures before checking in for their flights, and expressed ASUR’s complete willingness to cooperate with the authorities in order to apply measures to protect the health and safety of the airport’s users.

Also present were ASUR’s Chief Commercial Officer, Manuel Gutiérrez Sola, and Director of Regional Airports, Héctor Navarrete Muñoz, who presented a report to the Minister at the end of the visit to show that the airports at Mérida, Cozumel, Villahermosa, Veracruz, Minatitlán, Oaxaca, Huatulco and Tapachula, all operated by Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, were also in compliance with the health measures required by the Mexican transport authorities.

Following the visit to Cancún International Airport, the Governor of the State of Quintana Roo also visited Cozumel International Airport to review health inspection measures, and congratulated ASUR for all the hard work it had done.
