International Projects

In February 2013, the company Aerostar Airport Holdings, LLC received permission from the aeronautical authorities in the United States to operate Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Aerostar is a company that is owned 60% by ASUR.

The assignment by the United States Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) of the Part 139 airport operating permit represented the final step in the process of privatizing Luis Muñoz Marín Airport, which was previously operated by the Puerto Rico Ports Authority. This is now the first important airport within the US air transport network to have a private operator. The project therefore marks a turning point in the industry in the United States, with the potential to transform the way in which airports in this, the largest aviation market in the world, are administered.

Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport is located in the capital of Puerto Rico, San Juan. It is the largest airport on the island and in the Caribbean region in general, handling more than 8.4 million passengers in 2017.
